Selecting the proper replacement battery for your two way radio entails some simple knowledge of battery construction and performance. The adjacent Pro's and Con's list indicates the differences in batteries. Please visit our battery matrix or our battery shooping page once you've made your choice for two way radio batteries.
Nickel Cadmium (NiCd)Pros: Inexpensive Battery. Works well in all weather conditions (-22 to 122 degrees fahrenheit). Cons: Must be fully discharged before being recharged to return to full capacity. Known as memory effect.
Nickel-Metal Hydride (NiMH)Pros: Last 45% longer between charges than NiCd batteries. More Environmentally Friendly. Cons: Does not operate as well as NiCd in extreme temperatures.
Lithium Ion (Li-ion)Pros:Longer battery life and less weight than NiMH batteries. A major benefit for those who consider the two way radios cumbersome and heavy. No memory effect. Cons: More expensive than NiMH and NiCd.
